The newly constructed Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center features a 5,150 sq.ft servery & kitchen, and a 6,735 sq.ft dietary kitchen, designed to serve staff, visitors, and a population of 320 patient beds. One of only five LEED Platinum for healthcare certified facilities in the world, the hospital incorporates reduced energy demand systems (solar, thermal insulation and LED light fixtures), rainwater utilization, waste recycling, systems utilization with energy recovery options, and consideration of local materials for construction.
